Celia Grant, gardener extraordinaire and owner of a thriving nursery in a small English village, hires a timid young woman to assist with the potting and planting. Little does Celia suspect that her new employee is a rabid "green environmentalist" with ties to a nasty ring of thugs and an agenda that includes using violence to further the green cause. Much to Celia's horror, she discovers that her assistant is involved in a plot to sabotage the Royal Horticultural Society's exhibition, where Celia and the members of her local garden club are scheduled to exhibit. Like a younger and more agile Miss Marple, Celia uses a combination of intelligence, innocence, and intuition to outwit the baddies almost before the local constabulary figures out there's been a crime.
