Tourism is the focus of the first set of essays, which discuss the development of Mexico City nightlife, African-American writer Willard Motley's portrait of the 1950s Americanization of Mexican resorts, and the physical and social geography of the tourist destination of Cancun. Others discuss more sustained cultural engagements; including beatnik travels in Mexico and American folk-art dealers in Oaxaca.
