Summary: Set in Canada, these eight short stories share a common theme: survival. Survival in the wilderness is examined via children away at summer camp in "The Genesis," while survival in the city is explored in "The Age of Lead." In "Isis in Darkness," the protagonist is simply trying to maintain his life as it appears to spin out of control. And in "Uncles," the listener hears about a child growing up with uncles as her only male role models and how that affects her in adulthood. Each tale reflects contemporary life and demonstrates the all-too-common irrational behavior and logic of modern humans.
