Abstract: A comprehensive study of one of Britain's most influential schools of art, and of its birth and development from its international forebears. The double tap root of 19th and 20th century black and / or white line engravers is clearly mapped. The remarkable contemporary revival of the white line school arising from the precursors William Blake and Thomas Bewick is described in detail with the Nash brothers and Wadsworth to the living and younger generation.
