Renowned historian of World War II Beevor (U. of London) has radically rewritten his The Spanish Civil War, published in 1982 by Orbis Publishing, drawing on research by Spanish and other historians over the intervening quarter century, and material from German and especially Soviet archives that was not accessible previously. He finds that the additional information seems to have raised more questions than it answers, then suggests perhaps he has lost some of his passionate certainty from bygone years.
