The land -- The history -- The economy -- The culture -- Cities and communities.
The states of central Mexico are at the heart of the nation both geographically and economically. The rest of the country depends on these fertile lands for food. Most of the nation's water is found here. because Mexico's three largest lakes-Lake Chapala, Lake Patzcuaro, and Lake Cuitzeo-are all here. This region is one of Mexico's most prosperous. Since the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico early in the 1500s, this region has been the site of many events that shaped Mexico's history, the economy, the culture, and the important cities of these Mexican states.
