Summary: For many years the reputation of Gustav Klimt was virtually confined to his native Austria. Since 1945, the exhibition of his work in Europe and America revealed the true stature as a highly important forerunner of modern developments in the visual arts. This book is a systemic study of Klimt with a catalogue raisonné of his paintings. The book opens with a critical diussion of Klimt's work, its evolution and its place in the art of the period. Then follows a sequence of illustrations in which Klimt's compositions are reproduced. The book concludes with an exhaustive documentation of Klimt's life and art.
